Best Automated Crypto Trading Bot

"Automated" is doing a lot of work in "automated crypto trading bot". A grid bot automates order placement and nothing else. A signal bot automates entries and leaves exits to you. A curated agent automates the strategy, the risk controls, and the exit.

The useful comparison is what each product automates and what it hands back to you. Every bot on the market sits on one of four rungs, and the rung tells you how much of the job is still yours after you press start.

This page lays out the four rungs, names the products on each, and closes with the question that decides which rung you want: do you want to own the strategy, or the outcome?

Key takeaways

  • Four rungs of automation: order placement, rule execution, strategy selection, and end-to-end mandate. Each rung automates one more decision.
  • Higher rungs automate more and let you control less.
  • Custody is orthogonal to automation. Rungs one to three mostly run on exchange accounts; rung four can run from your own wallet.
  • "Fully automated" is only true at rung four, and only for the mandate the provider defined.

Rung 1: order placement

Grid and DCA bots automate the mechanical part of a pattern. A grid bot ladders orders across a range you set; a DCA bot buys on a schedule. Pionex, Bybit, and Bitget ship these inside the exchange app.

What is automated is the clicking. What is not is everything that decides whether the clicking makes money: the range, the pair, the leverage, and the moment to turn it off when the market leaves the range. A rung-one bot in a trending market executes its pattern perfectly into a loss.

This rung suits someone who already trades a pattern and wants it executed without attention. The exchange bots comparison covers these products, and the beginners page covers the settings that hurt new users.

Rung 2: rule execution

Rule bots act on conditions: if RSI crosses this, buy; if price drops that much, add; take profit here. Coinrule's no-code builder, 3Commas' DCA and Signal bots, TradeSanta, and Bitsgap live here, connected to your exchange through an API key.

Rule bots automate the reaction. The rule set itself, the signal source if you subscribe to one, and the risk layer stay with you: position limits, drawdown stops, and what happens when the rule is wrong for a week. Most rung-two losses are a correct rule in the wrong regime.

Choose it if you have a view you can express as conditions and the discipline to review those conditions as markets change. The 3Commas comparison covers the model.

Rung 3: strategy selection

Here you stop writing rules and adopt someone else's. Cryptohopper's marketplace sells strategies and signals; copy-trading products mirror a trader; Shrimpy rebalances a portfolio on its own logic; Stoic AI runs algorithmic portfolio allocation on your exchange account.

The strategy design is automated. Choosing whose strategy, checking that it still does what it did, and exiting when it stops are yours. A marketplace strategy comes with a trailing return and no obligation to keep running the same way.

It fits someone who wants outcomes without design and accepts the diligence of picking a source. The AI trading agents page sorts these products by what the intelligence decides.

Rung 4: end-to-end mandate

At the top rung, the provider defines a strategy and an agent executes it completely: entries, hedge management, risk controls, and exit, from a mandate that does not change with the operator's mood. You choose the agent and the amount.

Deploy Finance runs two such agents from a wallet you control. Income: Funding Rates is market-neutral: it holds a hedged position on Hyperliquid, collects perpetual funding, manages the hedge, and steps back when the rate does not justify holding. Superstar is directional on BTC, ETH, SOL, and HYPE perpetuals. Both use a session key that can trade on whitelisted venues and cannot transfer or withdraw; you revoke it yourself. There is no subscription or fee on deposits; gas and trade fees apply.

Everything inside the mandate is automated; the mandate itself is fixed. You cannot tune it, change the venue, or add a pair. If the strategy has a bad regime, the agent runs its rules through it, and the decision to stay allocated is yours. The risks page lists what can go wrong.

Pick it if you want the outcome of a defined strategy and accept not owning it. It is the only rung where "fully automated" fits, and only for that one mandate.

Custody runs across the rungs, not up them

Rungs one to three mostly run on exchange accounts. The exchange holds the funds; the bot holds a trade-only API key. Rung four can run from your own wallet, with a scoped permission instead of a key. The difference comes from where each product chose to execute.

A rung-two bot could in principle run against a self-custodial wallet on a decentralized venue, and Coinrule's Hyperliquid integration is an example. A rung-four agent could in principle run on an exchange account. The wallets for automation page covers the permission models. Pick the rung for automation depth, then check the custody separately.

How to choose your rung

Ask one question: do you want to own the strategy or the outcome?

  • Own the strategy, execute by hand less: rung one.
  • Own the strategy, express it as rules: rung two.
  • Own the choice of strategist, not the strategy: rung three.
  • Own the allocation decision only: rung four.

Then ask what you will do in the bad month. On rungs one to three, you will reconfigure. On rung four, you will decide whether to stay.

Verdict

The best automated crypto trading bot is the one on the rung that matches how much of the job you want to keep. Pionex-style templates for executing your own pattern. Coinrule or 3Commas for rules you define. Cryptohopper's marketplace or Stoic for adopting someone's strategy on your exchange account. Deploy Finance's agents for a defined mandate run end to end from your own wallet.
